Have you ever wanted a safe space to talk about how you relate to God – what feels great, what disappoints you, or just those unhelpful patterns that reappear over and over?
I did.
As a busy, working mom with young kids, I felt frustrated that my sacred desires for God or good intentions towards healing and growth were so easily lost in the shuffle of life. When space for prayer and reflection would finally open up again, I’d often forgotten what my desires and needs even were. Finally, after years of frustration and dead ends, I was introduced to someone willing to connect with me, hear my longings, name my trajectories, and pray for me. She was a trained spiritual director with whom I met regularly.
Then, to my surprise, the opportunity arose to explore whether God might want me to offer others a space for spiritual direction. What a privilege it is now, my training complete, to invite others to the type of relationship I myself was motivated to seek.
You might consider spiritual direction if you yearn for:
- someone willing to regularly engage in honest, nonjudgmental conversation about the journey of faith
- a companion in addressing areas for growth and healing in relation to God
- encouragement to maintain energy and focus towards God through prayer
- a safe, trusted space with someone who listens well and prays faithfully, where you don’t need to take care of anyone else’s needs.
If you wish to explore the ancient practice of spiritual direction or simply ask questions about it, please fill out the contact form. I’m available to meet in person in Birmingham, Alabama, via Zoom anywhere around the world, or on the phone.
“People who seek spiritual direction are choosing to engage in a discipline that will change them and change the way they tell their stories. They know God in particular ways, some unique to them, and some familiar to many people of faith. Spiritual directors, by skill and vocation, help people notice and cultivate ways of knowing and being known by God.”
